Acceptance is the gateway to emotional freedom. When we are finally ready to accept the truth of any situation we can experience the relief of letting go. It can be so easy to continue clinging on and pushing at immovable objects because we are fearful of the consequences of accepting the truth. As we grow in confidence we are more able to release and feel all of our feelings. As we gently nurture ourselves around our difficult feelings a different way forward opens up before us and clarity and openness begin to dawn. Acceptance and Letting Go lie at the very core of any Twelve Step recovery programme, or Buddhist practice, for a reason. Through Acceptance we stop running away, turning our back, or trying to bury our own truth. Peace really does lie in learning to love and nurture whatever pain and fear arises as we accept the truth of that which we cannot change.
